I dined at Restaurant 55 as part of a celebratory dinner party and we were very disappointed with the overall standard of cooking and presentation.
We have also been informed by the proprietor that much produce is obtained from Bookers cash & carry.
To start proceedings, I had roasted sweet potato soup with an accompanying chive cream cheese that had a lingering out of date staleness and tang, the taste as a whole was quite insipid with a rather repulsive sweetness, fooling the senses into suggesting a savoury blancmange.
As a smoked salmon aficionado my wife succumbed to a smoked salmon salad, which had a cheap vacuum packet taste and quality about it, certainly not one of the finer smoked salmons easily available in this part of the world.
None of our party had the intermediate frozen water, which was charged at a scooping £1.55 supplement.
Disappointment continued throughout the main courses with mix and unmatched flavours including an overcooked rice pudding textured risotto and I am afraid Parma ham does not match Thai red curry sauce confirming our suspicions that the chef is not eating what he's cooking.
For dessert some of us opted for the sticky toffee pudding that can only be described as containing un-chewable pieces of dehydrated something served with custard that was obviously overcooked and on the verge of parting its ways.
Once again, none of us chose the cheese as the board was weighed down heavily with a £1.55 supplement, nor did we achieve a satisfactory ending to the meal as the coffee was charged at an extra £2.55 supplement.
Although the word "organic" appears throughout the menu excessively, it is clearly apparent that much of the produce is very un-seasonal and definitely not sourced locally.
Unfortunately, we left feeling that the poor standard of food coupled with the many menu items containing additional costs in the form of supplementals topped with a rather extortionate service charge was not value for money compared to other superior eateries in the area and we would certainly not revisit or recommend this Restaurant.
