Restaurant Reviews
Chiquito – Portsmouth

I was part of a party of nine on the evening of Friday, December 5.
Had the manager known that six out of nine of the people on our table were actually journalists working for The News, any one of which could be doing a review - perhaps she would not have treated us in the manner she did.
We booked our table for half seven and before we could even sit down were being told we had to be done by 9.30pm for the next booking - not the kind of welcome you would expect. Then by about 9.10pm, when the waiter had just taken our dessert orders - which we had every intention of finishing by our half nine, the manager (Marie I believe) came over to our table and in an incredibly abrupt manner told us we had to leave immediately. She said we 'had been told' we needed to 'be out' by half nine. She was incredibly rude and we were utterly shocked by her unprofessional manner. We said we had been told we needed to be done by half nine and she eventually let us be.
It was disgusting the way we were spoken to and dealt with. We were paying customers, giving the restaurant at least £150. But because of the manager's non-existent customer service skills, we declined to pay the service charge.
We've all been to Chiquitos before, myself and my partner go regularly infact, once a month at least. But since Friday, it will take a lot for me to want to give the restaurant any of my money anymore.
I will also be contacting Chiquitos head office to make a complaint.

we booked a table at Gabbys restaurant for my girlfriends birthday and invited all the family. As soon as we got to the restaurant we were greeted with a frosty reception, Gabby the host is horrible, you'd think she would treat her customers with respect but she is arrogant & very aggressive. The service is disgusting from all the staff that work there, they should definitely go on a hospitality training course. The food is very good but its not worth the hassle.....AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS.

I don't normally write review but this hotel/restaurant is absolutely Fantastic, The whole place was immaculately clean including the loos. Every where you look there are curiosities to look at and kills the time while the food is being prepared. We waited an acceptable amount of time for the food and we were in for a real treat. The food was great, I requested the 20 oz steak rare, and that is exactly what I got (usually when I go to a restaurant I ask for rare and get a medium). The portions were large and the waiter came around with extras half way through. The staff were excellent, very polite, friendly and bent over backwards to make my 8 year old son feel welcome, he was permitted to walk around and look at all the nick-naks and to talk to the chef in the kitchen.
The only down side was that the cabbage was a little soggy as it had been a little over cooked.
Over all the best restaurant experience I have ever had, I will be returning regularly and am happy to make the 60 mile round trip again and again in order to do so especially when the wife drives;-)

Tabernacle after its refurbishment is really good, the club downstairs Cube is great and I loved the 70's feel of it

What a fabulous find! The food was first class, nicely served by a lovely girl. The Chef came to speak to us saying the food was all locally sourced. All this for two courses for a five pounds at lunchtime. We will be back.

I have been using the restaurant at lunch for buffet food. The food has been very good. The service has not been great and I was appalled upon my last visit with the chap on the front service area. He was rude and due to that I will never go there again. My card did not process, he started to tut at me, huffing and puffing. I said that I found his attitude unhelpful, his response was "thank you". I am appalled that restaurants employ staff like this, no wonder the food is so cheap...they don't have many people going in there...clearly cos they cant get the staff!!!

Salieri – London

We went to Salieri after seeing the Lion King, using their Post-show 2-stage Menu offering. We were seated quickly and some bread and veggies were on our table even before the menu's were. It was a while before we were asked what we would like to drink. My wife wanted the house wine, but strangely the waiter was unable to tell us what that a glass of wine would cost exactly ("somewhere around 4 pounds, 4 pounds 50"). Drinks did arrive quickly, but then they just left us sitting there while we were ready to order. At last, one of the waiters came to take our order.
It did take about 20 minutes for the food to arrive. While nicely presented, the food was not too hot and did cool off very quickly. The vegetables were not fully cooked (appears to be the fashion these days) and quite tasteless. My wife's salmon was good, not great. My steak was not that good, the meat simply was not like you'd expect for that price. And the pepper sauce.. well.. ordinary gravy with some peppers in it...
For desert, my wife had the Tiramisu I believe, and I had the Panne Cotta. Both were not great.
After that we decided we wanted to leave quickly, and I asked for the bill. It took a few minutes, but it eventually got to our table. On the bill they charged us 2 pounds extra for beef (which came as a complete surprise as this is nowhere (at least not clearly) on the menu), and 12.5% for service!!!
By that time I was ready to make a scene, but my wife did not want me to. We put the money in the bill holder, and waited for it to be picked up. That again took some time, and I was getting more and more annoyed. After I "reminded" a waiter he picked it up, but then he proceeded to the cash register and just put it there, with us waiting for the return money!! After again something like 5 minutes, with me getting increasingly (probably visibly) annoyed at the place, a waiter stopped by our table and asked if everything was OK. I resisted the urge to grab him by his neck, but told him we were waiting for our money back. After a few minutes passed, we finally got our money back. But.. where was the receipt?? We got up, and as my wife walked out I went to the cash register to ask for our receipt!
Food: Some of Burger Kings food is better than this.
Service: Too lazy, not paying attention.
Atmosphere: After the above, does it matter?
Bottom line: Avoid!!

Shahbaaz Tandoori Restaurant – Aberdeen

I would like to give my first experience in Shabaaz on 29/09/08.
Me and my friends were having dinner there and we asked for couple of curries and the waiter there pointed finger on us and he said that be very clear when you pleace your order at the begining and we were like shocked and after we got what we wanted to eat and then again that waiter came and said this is our restaurant and whenever we want can close and whatever we want they can do it.
Except that guy everybody said sorry to us and at the end i asked for a complaint book if Aberdeen city council but they said we are sorry about that and there was no manager on duty and the restaurant was managed by waiters.
Everything was okay till then until we left the restaurant @ 23:46 pm and within 5 minutes we were on union st. and we got shocked that the same waiter came with other 11 of his friends to fight and they started puching swearing and called the police and they got detained and got bedind the cell but what a dinner for us we spent our whole night in giving statements in police station. And we have also given a article in Press & Journal as well.
So that's my experience in that Place, I can never forget that incident in my life and i'm not going to spare that person at all unless and until he goes behind bars. Thats a promise!
